The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to feature a 64-bit Exynos chipset as the company announced that it will begin manufacturing this new component soon.

A director with Samsung's System LSI division confirmed during a conference call that the company is ready to manufacture its first 64-bit SoC, according to Korean website IT Today. This new chip will allow the use of large amounts of RAM, and will be available in the second half of 2014.

There is some indication that, in addition to a 64-bit architecture, Samsung’s upcoming SoC may implement a 14nm process based on ARM’s big.LITTLE platform, similar to what is currently seen on the Exynos 5410 and Exynos 5420 “5 Octa” chipsets. Using Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57 cores, the octa-core chipset would allow for functionality of all cores at once, while maintaining its power-saving capability. Some reports have already referred to the chip as the 64-bit Exynos 5430 “true eight-core” processor; however, a name has not yet been confirmed by Samsung.

Samsung will most likely release the Galaxy S5 sometime in 2014 and the handset is also rumored to be water and dust proof out of the box.

Another feature of Samsung Galaxy S5 that is being said is its casing. Latest reports claimed that Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a plastic casing, contradicting previous reports that the device will have either a metal or faux leather case.

Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is still unconfirmed and there are a lot of speculations as to when the South Korean tech giant will release its 2014 flagship smartphone. There are rumours that the device will arrive as early as January and will probably make an appearance on the upcoming Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas to be held on January 7 to10.
