Google Glass, smartwatches and even the biohacker who inserted a microchip under his skin, forget everything because Motorola is trying to do something new with its Wireless-Tattooed-Microphone.

Motorola has applied for a patent of a wireless microphone with a tranceiver and power supply that is designed to be tattooed onto your throat. The patent is known as ‘Coupling an electronic skin tattoo to a mobile communication device’ and it was originally filed in May 2012.

The concept is to capture vibrations directly from your larynx so that the background noise can be cut, while eliminating something else you could lose, we imagine. The skin-borne device could communicate with your phone or other portable device by NFC, Bluetooth or other wireless protocols and would contain a battery that may or may not be rechargeable.

If Motorola is able to manufacture a device like the concept they’ve just patented, you will never have to wear a Bluetooth headset again. You can replace it with an electronic tattoo that you can slap on your neck. Motorola sees the tattoo as a way to detect and block out unwanted noise. They also figure it could be used as a lie detector.

There is no explanation given as to why you would want a tattoo on your neck that could inform your smartphone you’re not being truthful via NFC, but it could be very useful for police in their field.
