Nokia is preparing to back Windows RT by launching a 10.1-inch tablet soon. Sources familiar with Nokia's plans have revealed to 'The Verge' that the tablet, codenamed Sirius, will be launched shortly.
Images of a prototype of the elusive tablet have leaked a couple of weeks ago and showed a red Verizon-bound tablet looking like an oversized Lumia handset - the same pillow-shape design, the same vivid colors for its polycarbonate body.
Now, the Nokia Sirius is said to be thinner than the Apple iPad, and lighter as well, weighing just over a pound. Nearly all technical details about the Sirius have leaked as well, here’s a breakdown :
Display : 10.1-inch 1080 x 1920 pixel display with brightness boost for better outdoor visibility
CPU : Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-Core Chip
RAM : 2GB
Memory : 32GB Internal (Expandable via MicroSD)
Primary Camera : 6MP
Front Camera : 2MP
It also includes 4G LTE Connectivity, 10-hour battery life & microHDMI, microUSB ports.
Much like Microsoft did with the Surface RT, Nokia is planning to offer an optional keyboard and that accessory will also have a built-in battery, further boosting the Sirius longevity. Other accessories are also planned at launch.
Nokia is planning an official event in New York on September 26th to announce the tablet and confidently has decided to price the Sirius tablet like an iPad (starting from $499 for the most basic version). What do you think, does the Nokia Sirius stand a chance against the iPad and other higher-res 10-inch tablets and is that the right price?
