The Microsoft Surface 2 release date has yet to be officially confirmed, but tablet specs have surfaced online ahead of the speculated launch. Recent Microsoft Surface price cuts and unsuccessful sales would likely prompt the next-generation tablets. Microsoft Surface RT 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets are expected to release in 2014, which would mean the models would include the Windows 8.1 upgrade.

Microsoft Surface 2 specs include several new features, hopefully sparking prosperous tablet sales in light of the disastrous launch of the Surface RT tablets. Here are rumored features of the next-generation Microsoft Surface tablets:

Fingerprint Sensors:
The Microsoft Surface RT 2 and Surface Pro 2 are expected to feature fingerprint sensing technology, Design & Trend reports. This means that when a user picks up their tablet in a certain way, their analyzed and verified fingerprints will immediately unlock their device, eliminating the need for security processes. Apple has been reportedly developing this fingerprint sensing technology for the upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 6. The technology upgrade in the Surface 2 tablets would mean consumers could control media playing using fingerprint sensors.

Intel's New Haswell Processors:
The rumored Microsoft Surface Pro 2 models will include Intel's new Haswell processors, according to KpopStarz. The newest Haswell fourth-generation Core processors are now featured in Windows 8-powered Ultrabooks, which wouldn't make the introduction of the new chip in the Surface Pro 2 Models surprising.
As for the Microsoft Surface RT 2 model, Tom's Hardware reports that Microsoft has added Qualcomm as a Surface RT supplier. This indicates that the Microsoft Surface RT 2 would feature the Snapdragon 800 chip for the LTE models, while Nvidia is expected to supply Tegra 4 for the Wi-Fi only tablets.
